How much wallpaper do I need? If you're asking yourself this question, you're not alone. It's one of the most common questions homeowners have before ordering wallpaper, and the good news is that it's much easier to figure out than you might think.

Whether you're creating a cozy bedroom retreat, adding charm to a powder room, designing a beautiful nursery, or making a statement with an accent wall, taking a few simple measurements will help you order the perfect amount of wallpaper with confidence.

At Dig'n Designs, my wallpaper is printed in 19-inch-wide panels and is available in heights ranging from 2 feet to 18 feet, making it easy to find the perfect fit for your project.

Quick Answer:
To calculate how many wallpaper panels you need, measure the width of your wall in inches and divide by 19 (the width of each Dig'n Designs wallpaper panel). Round up to the nearest whole number. Then choose the panel height that is at least as tall as your wall.

 

Step 1: Measure the Width of Your Wall

Using a tape measure, measure the full width of the wall you want to wallpaper.

For the best results:

• Measure in inches.

• Measure from one edge of the wall to the other.

• If your measurement lands between two numbers, round UP to the nearest inch.

Example

If your wall measures 114 inches wide, you'll use that measurement to determine how many wallpaper panels you'll need.

Step 2: Measure the Height of Your Wall

Next, measure from the floor to the ceiling.

Again, measure in inches and round up if needed.

Common wall heights include:

• 8-foot ceiling = 96 inches

• 9-foot ceiling = 108 inches

• 10-foot ceiling = 120 inches

• 12-foot ceiling = 144 inches

Choose a wallpaper panel height that is at least as tall as your wall. A little extra length allows your installer to trim the wallpaper for a clean, professional finish.

Step 3: Calculate How Many Wallpaper Panels You Need

To determine how many panels you'll need, use this simple formula:

Wall Width ÷ 19 = Number of Wallpaper Panels

Always round up to the next whole panel.

Example 1

Wall Width: 95 inches

95 ÷ 19 = 5 panels

You'll order 5 wallpaper panels.

Choosing the Correct Wallpaper Height

Once you've determined how many panels you need, select the panel height that best fits your wall.

Dig'n Designs wallpaper is available in:

• 2' × 19" (great for furniture accents, crafts, and small projects)

• 4' × 19"

• 6' × 19"

• 8' × 19"

• 10' × 19"

• 12' × 19"

• 14' × 19"

• 16' × 19"

If your wall is 8 feet (96") tall, choose an 8-foot panel.

If your wall is 9 feet (108") tall, choose a 10-foot panel to allow for trimming during installation.

When in doubt, it's always better to have a little extra length than not enough.

What If I'm Wallpapering More Than One Wall?

Simply add together the width of every wall you're covering.

For example:

Wall 1 = 114"

Wall 2 = 95"

Total Width = 209 inches

209 ÷ 19 = 11 panels

Should I Order an Extra Panel?

If your project includes windows, doors, corners, or outside edges, ordering one additional panel is often a smart idea.

An extra panel can also be helpful if you ever need to make a repair in the future. Since wallpaper is printed in batches, ordering everything at the same time helps ensure your colors remain beautifully consistent.
